The California State University, Northridge Department of Cinema and Television Arts 30th Senior Film Showcase (2020 redux) will take place Wednesday, September 14th at 8:00PM in the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences located at 8949 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90211. The showcase is free and open to the public. Parking is free in parking structures located close by at 8920 Wilshire Blvd. at La Peer St. or 9025 Wilshire Blvd. at Wetherly St. There is also free metered parking all along Wilshire Blvd. starting at 7pm.
The host for this year’s event will be director, writer, producer and CSUN alum Mark L. Lester. Lester has created high-action films throughout his career, including some of the world’s biggest box office draws and credited as helping to shape the high-action genre. His directorial expertise has garnered praise for such films as Arnold Schwarzeneggers’s box office mega-hit Commando, Stephen King’s supernatural thriller Firestarter starring a young Drew Barrymore and Martin Sheen, Showdown in Little Tokyo starring Dolph Lundgren and the late Brandon Lee, Armed and Dangerous starring John Candy and Meg Ryan as well as the frighteningly prophetic film Class of 1994 with Michael J. Fox. Lester’s breakout film earlier was the disco-era now cult film Roller Boogie starring Linda Blair.
There will be a retrospective of Lester’s work shown that evening.
The evening is sponsored by the CSUN Associated Students Instructionally Related Activities Fund and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, known worldwide for the Golden Globe Awards. All senior film project directors have the distinction of being Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellows.
